So, it’s been almost 18 months since the Mavic Pro was introduced and the rumor mill is in full force. With that said we have break down of the latest rumors on the DJI Mavic Pro 2 coming out of China. So, let’s get started:

SIZE – The latest rumors are that the Mavic Pro 2 will grow in size and be somewhere between the current size of the Mavic Pro and the Phantom 4. It will still contain the same foldable form factor, but just grow in overall size to support the new camera.

CAMERA – The rumors are that the new camera will sport the same 1” sensor that the DJI Phantom 4 currently uses and this is the main reason the size had to increase. We would also assume that this means the gimbal will be derived from the Phantom as well.

MOTORS – With the larger size will come larger motors, and upgraded propulsion system. The rumors are saying about a 30-40% size increase. This should help with better wind control and longer flight times.

BATTERY – No specifics on the battery, but due to large size, the battery size is expected to increase as well. This will offer flight times up to 30 minutes.

OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE – Rumors are that it will have front, downward and rear sensors similar to the new Mavic Air.

In conclusion, the new Mavic Pro 2 is being pushed upmarket to almost take the place of the current Phantom 4 (think foldable Phantom 4). It’s expected that the Phantom 5 that’s in development will again move upmarket to Prosumer level (rumors are interchange able lenses) and be near the $2,000 price point. This should help fill the gap between the current Phantom 4 Pro and Inspire 2. From what we are hearing the Mavic Pro 2 will be released in March or April of this year. We personally think that NAB might be a good bet on a launch.
